Meditation is a powerful, yet simple way to elevate your level of consciousness...
For this year-end issue, my article is dedicated to the memory of my revered spiritual mentor, Pranic healer and good friend, Jeffrey Sean Pool. On September 27th, he crossed over to the spiritual realm at the age of 42. His physical presence will be hugely missed by the many people who were blessed to know him during his time on earth. Jeffrey taught me the gift of meditation, and this spiritual tool, I will carry with me throughout my lifetime. I would like to share with you, some of what I have learned.
Meditation is a powerful, yet simple, way to elevate your level of consciousness, get in touch with your higher self, raise your spiritual vibration, achieve clarity, find inner peace, seek guidance from the heavenly realm and/or reach a state of nirvana. There are a number of ways in which to meditate, and I encourage trying various methods to find which works most effectively for you.
A useful way to learn how to meditate is to utilize a guided meditation CD or tape. The person instructing you on the CD will generally have a soothing voice, conducive to assisting you in quieting the mind and achieving mental relaxation. You will be directed to visualize a nature setting, place of tranquility, or perhaps to create a safe haven for yourself to journey toward. Once in that peaceful place, you will receive further instructions designed to help you with whatever your particular quest is, be it to remove mental clutter, meet your spirit guides, obtain solutions to dilemmas or simply to relax. When the meditation is finished, you will be gently guided to return to your body and may be given techniques for grounding yourself. * Note – it is very important never to listen to a meditation or hypnosis CD while driving a vehicle, as it does alter your state of consciousness.
Another way to embark upon meditation is to take part in a class, circle or group. As powerful as it is for an individual to meditate, it is even more potent when there is a group consciousness with a shared intention. Where two or more are gathered...truly does produce miraculous results. Not only do group participants often feel palpable shifts in the energy around them, after a shared meditation experience, they are able to share details of their meditative journeys to assist one another with their spiritual growth.
Prayer itself is a beautiful form of meditation. Meditative prayer includes the silent supplications sent up to the Creator, or repetitive prayers such as those recited when using prayer beads or a rosary. It also includes chanting, which is the intonation of sacred words or mantras rhythmically repeated over and over, usually with a desired outcome or goal in mind. Dancing and song also may be forms of meditation, such as those performed by Native American, African and other tribal cultures.
Situating yourself in a sacred place in nature is a wonderful way to facilitate meditation. A location in the mountains, close to the pulsating ocean, near a bubbling stream, in a country meadow or under majestic trees lends itself perfectly to allowing your mind to become clear and peaceful. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, it can be nearly effortless to take yourself to another level. In that state of stillness, answers will come and perhaps spiritual visitors as well.
My friend Jeffrey taught the Twin Hearts meditation, which was developed by Master Choa Kok Sui and is practiced in the Pranic Healing circles. During the Twin Hearts meditation, the energy is focused from the top of the head (crown chakra) and the heart chakra to help heal our beloved planet earth. This special meditation is a powerful tool toward fostering world peace, and provides many practitioners with a feeling of oneness with all of creation. (Specific guidelines for the Twin Hearts meditation can be found on Pranic Healing websites.)
Those who meditate on a regular basis generally derive a variety of benefits in dealing with life’s daily challenges. Whether you prefer to meditate in solitude, with a group, or by following a CD ––you should experience less stress and greater overall tranquility the more you practice it.
For my part, each time I meditate, there will be a part of me which will remember my friend and mentor. Namaste, and thank you Jeffrey. May you continue to guide and send blessings from your Heavenly home.
