Awakening is the
moment we become
completely human...

•••Awakening is a continuous process of living and not simply a realization. There are some people who say: I had an experience and became enlightened. It would be better to say, I had an enlightening experience. The first answer brings medals or acclaim or robes. The second answer brings peace.

•••The ego likes to think that it can achieve a state called “enlightenment,” and then its work will be finished. But “awakened” just means you’d better roll up your sleeves and pay attention, because life continues to happen.

•••Awakening is the moment we become completely human, no longer suffering needlessly and no longer fighting the suffering we must do––and knowing the difference.

•••Consider learning to suffer in a new way. As an adult, you can have a different relationship with this fundamental condition of human suffering, one that brings dignity and aliveness. It begins with recognizing that imperfection is a fact of life, and that the suffering caused by imperfection will remain, even after we have done all the work we can possibly do on ourselves. It is part of the existential phenomena of being human. When you can do this, your suffering will help you increase your degree of kindness and forgiveness toward yourself. You will also be kinder to your brothers and sisters who walk this planet in the glory and difficulty of being human. When you do these things, you are truly awakened.
