...practice self-hypnosis daily & take yourself to a place of nature, relaxation and positive change.
What You Think of Yourself is MY Business
Have you every stopped to think about the peace that comes from nature? Perhaps you draw your sense of spirit inward when you see a body of calm water or hear the crashing waves of the ocean. Maybe you feel connected to your higher power when you walk in the woods and smell the trees, see the vivid, bright colors of the flowers. When we connect with nature, we breathe deeper, reduce stress and anxiety, and bring a calm sense of peacefulness into our lives.
Recently a friend called to invite me to hike with her at the Ramakrishna Monastery in Trabuco Canyon. Just the thought of this adventure, put a smile on my face. As I looked at the pictures on the web site, the sweeping view of the valley and hills, that sense of nature, peace and tranquility filled my thoughts.
In the midst of our hectic pace in Southern California, taking refuge in nature and appreciating the beauty around us is a sure way to live a more balanced life. If you don’t always have the time to go to nature, you can use your powerful imagination and the subconscious mind to bring nature to you. Using imagery through hypnosis or self-hypnosis can be a powerful tool to bring you to that natural state of calm and tranquility.
The transformational nature of hypnotherapy has enhanced the practices of health workers, counseling or teaching professionals, psychologists, physicians, dentists, chiropractors, social workers, marriage counselors, physical therapists, optometrists, ministerial professionals, nurses, massage practitioners and coaches. Dr. Gerard Sunnen of the New York University School of Medicine calls hypnosis “the most potent nonpharmacological relaxing agent known to science.” He will prescribe hypnosis before prescribing a tranquilizer. Within the field of hypnotherapy, there are a great variety of ways to harness the power of the subconscious mind to effect change ranging from chronic and acute pain, confidence, concentration, motivation, achievement, focus, health, stress management, addiction, habit modification, sports performance, creative expression and natural relaxation.
Let’s talk about the natural relaxation. What if you could use the powerful part of your subconscious mind to remove you from your stressful life for a few minutes to take you to a place of nature? You can do it. You have done it. The truth is, you have been in and out of a hypnotic state literally thousands of times. You didn’t notice it because it seemed like a natural state of mind. And the hypnotic state is natural for all humans and many animals. Hypnosis is a mind/body natural medicine. A skilled hypnotherapist can facilitate powerful changes in your life. Although it is a serious therapeutic technique, hypnosis is also a pleasant, calming experience. You can practice self-hypnosis daily and take yourself to a place of nature, relaxation and positive change.
What is it anyway? Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility.
What is self-hypnosis? It is not magic but it is available 24/7––a skill that is always with you. It can permit you to experience certain ideas and images as if they are real. It permits you to benefit from those ideas and images. Images of nature can be powerfully calming.
How do I do it? There are many good books written on the subject of self-hypnosis. It also takes time and practice. One technique is to notice and relax your breathing. Find a comfortable place. Relax all of the muscles in your face. Start at your forehead and work down to your temples, eyes, eyelids, jaw. Next imagine the relaxation moving down into your neck, shoulders, lower back, arms, chest. And then feel the relaxation moving down into your stomach, legs and toes. Imagine you are at the top of a stair case, stepping down. Counting each step down from 10 to 1, allow your body and mind to drift down into a relaxed state. When you reach the number 1, imagine yourself in a beautiful place of nature. Your favorite place. Just allow your stress and tension to bounce off and away. Imagine a sense of peace and well-being in this wonderful place. Let the positive feelings grow stronger. When you are ready to come up, count from 1 to 5 and feel your energy coming back with each number you count. When you reach the number 5, open your eyes and tell yourself how great you feel. Spend as much time as possible within the beauty of nature. Remember to smile, love and be loved.
