R. Kay HockingIf you start with your
conscious thoughts, you
will have insight
into what messages you
are sending to your
subconscious mind.

Bob Marley (Jamaican songwriter, reggae singer and guitarist 1945 – 1981) once said “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.” Much earlier, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (American poet 1807 – 1882) gave us a similar concept, “Thought takes man out of servitude, into freedom”.

In our culture of left-brain-thinkers, we set goals, make plans, manage our time, say our affirmations, but it is actually our right brain (the subconscious) that can take us to freedom. Although our subconscious mind is more than 80% of our mind, it is quite often underutilized. Many of us rely on our memories of the past, which are not reality, to dictate our future and stop us from living in the moment.

Spend time living in the moment and creating your successful future. That which you focus on does grow. Your subconscious mind is the part of your mind which can create what you really want in life. It is the part of your mind that taps into your intuition, stores your beliefs and memories, creates health, and establishes your habits. And, you have the ability to make changes in that part of your mind. Yes, you have the freedom to let your mind set you free.

Setting your mind free is actually easier than you might think. If you start with your conscious thoughts, you will have insight into what messages you are sending to your subconscious mind. Do you have thoughts of creating wealth? Or, do you focus on what you don’t have? Do you focus on your healthy body? Or, do you obsess about those 25 extra pounds? Do you tap into intuition about your daily life? Or, do you ignore the messages and do what you have always done? Do you know what you are passionate about in life? Or, do you simply let outside sources dictate what you do and think? Do you live each day in love? Or, do you accept stress, anxiety and fear as your daily diet. Do we have a choice? You bet we do!

Negative thoughts about yourself or others contaminate your mind. Think of those thoughts as a mirror. Negative thoughts will block your path to freedom.

Begin to use your mind in positive ways. You have the choice to create your success, the direction of your future, abundance, health, relationships, inner peace, intuition, and much more. You have the choice to create how you think. You can change habits, beliefs and your reality.

The first step is to quiet your mind each day for a specified amount of time. Stop thinking! It is like turning off your car engine when you get to your destination. It doesn’t need to keep running all of the time. You can use meditation, self-hypnosis, or just taking 3 very deep breaths to bring you to a state of calm for a few moments. In this state, you can filter thoughts without giving them emotion. You have the ability to change thoughts, create new thoughts and send new programming to your subconscious mind.

So start with three deep breaths, letting your mind go quiet and your muscles relax. It feels great. Stop the thoughts for a few minutes. This will allow your conscious mind to be quiet, allowing you to explore your subconscious mind. Then imagine yourself in the perfect relationship, with a career you are passionate about. Imagine yourself connected to your source. Invite intuition into your mind. Picture yourself stress free, perhaps laying on a beach somewhere beautiful relaxing. That which you focus on does grow. Imagination is stronger than you think. Freedom of your mind is independent of outer conditions. It is within reach for everyone. Life is always shaped by the thoughts you practice. If you find yourself with negative thoughts, stop and change the thought to a positive one. Celebrate the freedom your mind has given you to create.

If you are a person who has trouble quieting your mind, get a journal or a pen and paper. Writing is a subconscious exercise of focus. When you are writing, you are focused and sending subconscious messages to your brain. Write about your life as you want it to be and as if you already have whatever it is you really want. Send letters of gratitude to the universe. Take the time to ask yourself about your state of mind. Capture the power of your subconscious. Let your mind set you free.
