Poetry - Jan/Feb PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Joann Turner
ImagePoetry is a break for freedom.
In a sense all poems are good;
all poems are an emblem of courage and the attempt
to say the unsayable;
but only a few are able
to speak to something universal
yet personal and distinct
at the same time;
to create a door
through which others can walk
into what previously seemed
unobtainable realms,
in the passage of a few short lines.

Thought Conquest

Deep in my soul in a place seldom seen
where I visit in times when my life is serene

Sometimes quite by chance
Though I’m sure it exists
The doorway’s concealed
in life’s swamps and its mists

Deliverance I find there
with the vision to see
The keys to the shackles
that life’s put on me

I’ll linger awhile
And inevitably find
The lock most secure
is the one on my mind.

I am a child
led by wind
to feel the sun
and grow
to realize what trees
already know.
