GuyFinley2010Prayer is not what you think it is.  The truth is that we have all been given a tremendous amount of information, most of it misinformation - indirectly and directly - from individuals who, without any real interior experience of their own, having either assumed positions of authority or had it granted to them, instruct others about the Way to God.  This brings to mind an old Sufi saying, "May God kill he whom himself does not know the Way to Heaven, and yet presumes to show others."

Having such insufficient inner instruction for too many years has predisposed our thinking toward having a very limited, often childish knowledge of what prayer is; of what it's about; of what it's intended to do.  Even worse is the thought that this "knowledge of prayer" - along with its potential power and implied relationship - is somehow our possession alone and that the weight of it somehow makes us the center of the universe around which all others should orbit.  Such spiritual immaturity is the secret seed of religious fanaticism, a form of sickness that thrives within any unconscious aggressive conviction that others must see life as you do and that pushes you into the life of someone else who has not invited you in.  To demand that anyone blindly conform to anything is harmful to all involved and for all involved.

fonzie-montenegroIn the Law of Attraction niche, the masters talk about letting go of trying too hard and struggling because we don’t have to. It’s a waste of energy. The Universe will help us make our desires a reality. We just need to take inspired action.
This is actually true in my own life. Back then when I was struggling, I tried too hard on making things better. I took action but it felt like a struggle, it really felt awful in my chest and gut. So I guess something was amiss here.

guyfinleyDeep spiritual work reveals the truth that hellish things on earth manifest as they do because their dark cause dwells hidden somewhere in us. We are about to look into this interior abyss and shine into its unseen corners a beautiful light of understanding. We will illuminate the center of the earth where dark forces are always celebrating some victory over unconscious human beings.

Imagine the chief devil calling together every possible evil entity that is in range of his magnetic voice and saying, “How can we interfere up there? What can we do to further deceive human beings? We must keep them in the dark so they can’t see the Light that wants to rescue them. I want something so evil, so sinister, that no one will know what happened. Who’s got it?”

And the flames of all the little imps dim a little bit because they’re afraid; but two days later, they all come back with a few ideas, although nothing spectacular. Then one tiny imp hops on the shoulder of the devil and whispers something in his ear. Great flames shoot out of the devil and sear the little imp who cries out “Thank you!” Then the devil exclaims, “Ah! I have the plan in hand!”

In this age of technology and materialism, when many wonder what tomorrow will bring, the resurgence of spirituality is a normal phenomenon. For centuries, people have turned to religions or other belief systems for support and understanding. Yet it never resulted in a better world on a global level. An improved personal life perhaps, but not a better planet. So one can wonder why, after centuries of religious or spiritual teachings on love, forgiveness, presence or service, the world situation has not improved spiritually; why acts of sharing and forgiveness are the exception, not the norm. We can guess that the big majority of people wasn’t ready for these teachings, that the failure to bring peace, love or the end of suffering on earth is the failure of humanity. After all, the spiritual realm did its job, didn’t it? So why are people not listening?

The answer lies in each one of us. Our perception of the world is a very personal thing, it involves our mind and the infinite interpretations it can make about our experiences. This is how most of us lead our lives: We base our actions on what our minds are telling us. Yet many spiritual teachings tell us to go the other way: love, meditate, watch your mind, forgive, practice compassion, open your heart. The discrepancy between the teachings and what we do with them is as wide as the gap between faith and belief. Faith is the mysterious spiritual touch which brings a sacred dimension to our life. Faith doesn’t abide by rules. Unlike belief, it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with following one’s heart.

I was listening to my favorite singer the other morning. Being a writer and poet, I am always paying attention to lyrics. Although I have heard this song countless times, this particular morning his description of a young lady he happened upon produced an ah-ha response. His words, divinity-in-motion, jumped out at me and I immediately placed it in a different context. I began to think about these words and what it meant subliminally. This is such a perfect description of what we are – just think about that for a second – divinity-in-motion. It made me feel all tingly inside when I really got to thinking about what that encompassed.

I have always interpreted the biblical statement that “God breathed life into Adam’s nostrils and man became a living soul” to be God, being first cause, infusing Adam with a spark of its own life force – a force that is self-perpetuating energy, evolutionary in nature, and eternal. This divine spark is the true essence of who we are and our physical covering is in reality divinity-in-motion, moving through this 3-dimensional environment. What will this mean to you once you really get this? Will you still look upon yourself with anything less than awe and appreciation for what you really are? Does this not give you pause to become fully grateful for your essence? This is not blasphemy; nor is it mis-guided arrogance. We all have within us that single spark of divinity, the divine Christ Matrix, as the eternal core of our being. This is what God breathed into Adam. Incidentally, Adam represents collective masculine manifest energy, while Eve represents collective feminine manifest energy – the first marriage of mind (male) and emotion (female). To those of you who may be reading this article and not thought about Eve and Adam in this manner, try it on for size and let it germinate with you for a time. It may produce an interesting shift in your awareness.

One of the great defining moments of my life came when I was in college. I had been practicing Orthodox Judaism for about seven years, a very meaningful path for me. I came to a point, however, when the rituals had become rote and dry for me. On one holiday, a fast day, I was very hungry. But I feared to eat because I might go to hell for violating the religion’s rules. After struggling with the choice, I came to a striking realization: fear is not a good enough reason to do a religious act, and certainly no foundation for a life. So I ate a piece of cake, which signaled a turning point for me. Soon I let go of my religious practices and entered onto the spiritual path, in which I explored the world, studied with masters in many traditions, and enjoyed an explosion of higher consciousness. The cake eating heralded the beginning of one of the most spiritually productive periods of my life. Ultimately it led to me writing my first book, The Dragon Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, which became very popular and set the stage for all the years that have passed since that time.

is Energy in a permanent process of renewal, unfolding moment to moment. It has no beginning and it will never have an end. It comes from Eternity and it flows, perpetually, towards the same Eternity, in a perfectly harmonious order.

We can also call it Absolute Truth or God; these words define its Essence and content as All there is, in All and Everything, seen or unseen.

As Unique Reality, It is also endowed with creative force, and the Aliveness within us represents the Divine Spark which cannot be conditioned or measured, searched for or evaluated. It exists – purely and simply – as obvious and Unique Reality in a continuous process of evolution.

This Divine Particle – Perfection in Itself – is associated with a physical body and an imperfect mind; It permanently pursues perfection and the return to the Sacred Source where It originated. Destined to experience the association with the relative elements of the physical Universe, the Divine Spark – in moments of existence – comes into contact with “What is not real”, that is, the world of illusions, which disappears spontaneously. In the “psychological void”, It reveals Itself through Itself as Sublime Reality.

I was watching a movie the other day with Kevin Costner. You may have seen it yourself.  It is called Field of Dreams. To those of you who may not have seen this wonderful movie, I will not spoil it for you; but strongly suggest that you check it out. I have seen this movie in its entirety at least three times and it fills me with the wonder and the magic of faith in an activity or pursuit. Kevin Costner’s character is put through a series of events that tests his faith throughout the entire movie, and yet, he keeps listening to his inner knowing and moves forward undaunted – without ever being sure why he is being told to pursue his various courses of action.

I am reminded of how many times I have failed to stay my course and allow outward appearances to move me from my determined course of action; only to find out too late that had I not deviated, all would have worked in harmony and according to plan. Each time I interfered, I would set myself back ten steps! How many times did I deviate because I could not see the end result of my present actions and opted instead to change course in the middle of my journey. Faith is magic in motion. In those rare times when I have held fast to my faith that my end-result would be exactly as I intended; I was always amazed at the miracles that occurred! People, events, synchronicities, were nothing short of mystical. There is simply no other explanation. Let me share with you an example from my not-to-distant past and the synchronicities that occurred.

It seems that some people were born to struggle. You’ve seen them. They often appear to be right in the middle of one or more crisis’s. Maybe they’re trying to juggle a couple of jobs while raising a family. Maybe they’re behind with their bills as many are these days. Perhaps they’re at a complete loss for what to do next. They often live in quiet desperation day to day and feel they have nowhere to turn. But there is a way to find peace and it’s easier than many may think.

Do you feel like a misfit, misunderstood, out of time, from another era? Are your hopes and dreams falling apart? This is a period of great change and, for many, great change can be scary.

In the past, there’s always been lots of reality systems to choose from; peer groups to belong to,  endless strings of romantic partners, philosophies to believe in, etc. . There was always someone who would take care of us when everything fell apart, from our parents to the government. We could endlessly entertain ourselves – movies, drugs, etc etc. But it’s all running down, breaking down, and it’s becoming obvious to more and more people.
