The Delphic Oracle channelled the spirit of Apollo to deliver her message of wisdom and understanding to those who travelled considerable distances to seek guidance. Socrates heard the voice of his ‘daemon’ or guardian spirit who warned him of approaching danger.
In historical literature, angels often act as intermediaries between God and humankind, giving warnings, answering prayers, performing miracles and changing lives. Some were described as appearing as ordinary people, others described as having wings. Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen and Teresa of Avila, each described angel encounters as being accompanied by a beautiful scent.
Emanuel Swedenborg was granted extraordinary visions of the Afterlife and there are many stories of his mediumistic powers. The artist and poet, William Blake, when nine years old, saw a tree filled with angels which he reports were ‘bespangling every bough like stars’.
The word ‘angel’ originates from ‘angelus’ a word which means ‘messenger’ and their message is to uplift, inspire, empower and motivate those who they visit. Angels have been recorded rescuing people from dangerous situations and supporting those in need. They provide physical and emotional help, and healing, and moments of pleasure, co-incidence and understanding at difficult times, such as the birth of a child or during a near death experience. Meetings with angels are hallmarked by an increase of strength, courage, understanding and determination.
In 1847, the poorly educated Andrew Jackson Davis from Ploughkeepsie, New York State, channelled the physician and philosopher, Galen. Jackson-Davis, a forerunner of Edgar Cayce, could also diagnose and treat illnesses. Davis wrote over 30 books. In our time, channelling is increasing in popularity as a means to contact teachers of wisdom and understanding who have an important message to impart from the spirit world to our physical world.
I was living and working in London in the 1970s and everyone was excited about ‘the New Age’ which was going to dawn as we drew closer to the end of the millennium. We all had high hopes for a world of the future without wars and where we could all live in peace and harmony, as ‘the Age of Aquarius’ suggested we could.
When I visited California in the late 1980s, something interesting was happening called ‘channelling’ where mediums made contact with all kinds of elevated spirits, such as angels and ascended masters.
In the UK we were very familiar with the teachings of Silver Birch, who lived a physical life on Earth as a Native American who lived 3,000 years ago. This spirit made contact with an accomplished writer and medium, Maurice Barbanell, and hundreds of channelled books were the result. I was especially impressed by an American medium, Jane Roberts, who channelled a spirit, Seth, many of these messages were recorded and transcribed into books. A school has been founded to transmit Seth’s teachings.
In London, there was no centre where I could learn the art of channelling. I was so enthusiastic that I decided to start on my own, learning the hard way by trial and error. Within time, I realised it was much easier to accomplish good messages with help of other people, so I started a home group and invited others to join me.
I found that many who came to the group had skills that they quickly passed to me, so I grew in confidence and ability. Several of the mediums in the group wanted to start their own group, so I wrote a small manual. This was very popular until people were asking me to send them a copy and so it became a distance learning course. Many people used the book to set up their own psychic channelling circle and then my book was picked up and published under the title The Lightworkers Circle Guide.
Channelling is becoming very fashionable, with spirit-inspired messages from angels, ascended masters and wisdom keepers from the spirit realms. Lightworking, spiritual guidance, planetary ascension and a development of higher consciousness are topics that are increasing in importance.
We have experienced a time of political, financial and natural chaos. Financial meltdown of many rich Western countries caused by the banking collapse, the street riots in the UK in August, upheaval in the Middle East, famine exacerbated by war in the Horn of Africa, the discovery of fire retardants in the fat stores of Sperm Whales. The list of difficulties on a personal, societal and planetary level bring many people consider the meaning of life and how, and if, they can contribute to making the world a better place for those yet to be born.
Recent polls show that people who support a charity or who do voluntary work are happier and healthier than others who do not. Of course, if we want to live in a caring and considerate society, we must practice caring qualities. Finding a spiritual path leads to fulfillment, especially where we can share with others of similar values.
There is a smorgasbord of spiritual paths available to choose from. How do we decide which will be the most worthwhile? Do all spiritual teachers have feet of clay? For many, being told ‘what to believe and what to do’ is not appealing. In today’s world, intelligent people seek an experience where they can learn something of benefit to themselves and others, where they can share with others and where they can make a difference! One way to do this is to speak to Spirit and listen for advice and guidance.
We are not alone with our problems. Spirit teachers are waiting patiently for us to make contact so they can transmit the messages that will help on a personal or societal basis. Channelling is the way in which these spirit teachers distribute their messages for personal growth, societal change and planetary welfare.
Margaret Hunt
The following message was channelled through the medium, Margaret Hunt when she was enjoying a moment of relaxation in her garden and heard a voice calling her from a rosemary bush. It whispered. “come closer!” She bent down and crushed some of the needle-like leaves beneath her fingers and the voice grew stronger, saying:
The wonderful feeling you experience Margaret, is that of maternal love; It is the emotion bestowed by Gaia, the Great Earth Mother and all the great goddesses that bestow life and growth and nurturing to our planet. She is calling to be heard as I called to you.
Do you feel Her body beneath your feet? Can you connect to Her so that you can draw up her vitality for any challenges that lay ahead? She will provide for everyone if She is loved and cared for. Remember my immense powers of survival.
I can survive drought and fire, lashing storm and cutting down. Learn of my ability to bestow nourishment and strength to those in need. Like the embrace of my scented leaves, so a kind mother places her arms around a child. Be reassured and comforted by the abundance that our Earth Mother naturally provides as this is her embrace, her gift of love to us.
Take time to listen to the words of the tree, the bush and flower at this time of year and to my brother and sister herbs which are specially provided by our loving Earth Mother to delight and to heal. Enjoy the caresses of the dying summer sun on your face and do not forget to give thanks for the warm August breeze as it tousles your hair, for harvest moon soon gives way to the beauty and the sadness of autumn time. My leaves will always be green and I will always provide while my roots remain in the fresh soil. Give thanks for the bounty of Mother Earth of which I am just a part.
Please do not forget Her!” 'Rosemary' is a culinary and medicinal herb dedicated to Mary and Aphrodite and all goddesses of love. Rosemary has the power to aid remembrance and bestow physical health and clairvoyance.
Allison Stead
This is a message channelled through the medium, Alison Stead.
“The more materially sophisticated and technologically advanced we become, the further we move away from our divinity, the source of our being. In a pursuit to make life easier, instead of appreciating simplicity, we over-complicate our lives. In order to return to a state of spiritual balance, we need to stop and slow down, listen to what we are being told by spirit guides as they pull at our heart strings to improve life for all people and animals on our precious planet.
The heart knows what is right and good, healthy and kind, for it experiences peace at its centre. We will have peace again - in time. After all the lessons have been learnt and we return to the truth of life, we will ‘know’ the Alchemy of our Masters that brings humanity together with the Source of all things.”
