Recently I was enjoying a lovely day by the sea- shore, it was rather windy but fairly mild in temperature, the wind actually made the scene more beautiful, whipping up the waves as the crashed amongst the rocks. As I walked I was fascinated to see so many beautiful pebbles, it was a beach I had not visited previously and the number of pebbles and their sheer variety came as a surprise.

I was at once taken back to my childhood and the joy of scrambling around in rock pool, collecting shells and stones in my tin bucket! I vividly recall carrying this bucket home with me to my city house and loving the sight and smell of those items long after the holiday had ended. I was particularly fond of stones and pebbles, keeping them in a wooden box which I still have today .Not only does it take me back to childhood it reminds me forcefully of how quickly life goes by and we must enjoy and appreciate every day.

Choosing a large grey pebble from the beach, I picked it up and felt amazement at how smooth and beautiful it was. I tried to imagine all the years it had taken to wear this stone into the perfectly round shape it had become. How many people over the ages had picked up that same pebble and had the Dinosaurs walked over it! Now there is a thought. All this reminded me of a lovely story I included in one of my books and it is a wonderful example of how every day objects can reveal a powerful message from the angels. Here is the young lady’s story:

One day Helen was working in her office and feeling very gloomy, life had not turned out the way she had expected. She lived in a small sea side town where jobs were not plentiful but she had recently secured a local job which initially appeared to be exciting. The reality however, was rather different and in truth she found most days rather dull. After only a few weeks into her new job she feared that she had made a big mistake accepting the position. To add to her misery, a relationship she had hoped would be permanent and bring future happiness had come to a sudden end. Even the weather made her feel depressed as she looked out of the office window at the black sky and pouring rain. With a sigh, she looked at the clock and found there was still an hour to go before she could leave.

At last however, the clock pointed to ‘home time’ and she dashed for the door and out into the street, walking swiftly just two miles to her little apartment. Reaching home she realised that the rain had in fact stopped and the sky was showing a little blue at last. She pulled on her rain- coat and wellington boots and went for a long walk on the beach. Her spirits began to rise at the sight of the beautiful sea scape, children playing in the rock pools and dogs rushing around in excitement. I am so lucky to live in this beautiful place she thought, and bending down began to pick up a few treasures, a stone, a shell etc.

By the time she reached home her mood had change completely and she found herself thinking her guardian angel must be close by. She vowed to trust that all would eventually be well. Reaching into her pocket, she lifted out her treasures, it was then that she gasped in delight, for etched into the large flat stone she had chosen, was the perfect outline of an angel! The outline was pure white against the dark grey stone and for Helen this was the proof she needed that her angel was indeed close by.

There is a little exercise you might like to try using a stone pebble. This will bring your angel close and give you self- confidence on a day that you feel a little low in spirits. Here is what you do:

  1. Choose a pebble that you find particularly attractive from any source available, the beach, a mountain path, or even in a local park.
  2. Sit in a room by yourself, feel the pebble in your hand as you close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  3. Picture a time in your life when you felt very happy. It could be a time from childhood, perhaps playing on a beach in the sun. Falling in love, buying you first car, or your wedding day etc Remember that sensation of happiness and tell yourself that you were very happy once and there is no reason why you cannot be happy again.
  4. This time holding your stone, recall a time in your life when you felt successful, winning a race at school, passing your driving test, passing an exam, gaining a new job, learning to ride a bike etc Remember that feeling of success, how wonderful it felt to achieve. You have been successful in the past, there is no reason why you cannot be again.

Imprint these sensations into your stone and then put it into your pocket or handbag. Realise that your angel will also be with you when you complete this exercise. Carry the stone with you and should you find you are having a bad day, feel low or depressed about a situation, take out your stone. Hold the stone in your hand, close your eyes ask your angel to be with you and repeat the exercise, you will find the wonderful feelings come rushing back.

Remember that it is not seeing is believing but believing is seeing.
