Sometimes anxiety and/or depression can be rooted in childhood traumas and/or in a mild brain injury. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, alcohol use, a high impact auto accident or a long forgotten childhood accident are leading causes of brain injury. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder creates high cortisol levels, causing brain damage, anxiety and depression). Government clinical trials show that anxiety and/or depression is present in 87% of the population with brain or head injuries.
The publication Applied Neurology states that more than a quarter of the population has a mild or traumatic brain injury.
CranioSacral Therapy is the preferred treatment for certain types of endogenous depression (depression for which there is no apparent cause). Often people with this type of depression will exhibit simultaneous compression of three key joints. At the lowest lumbar vertebrae, at the base of the skull and the compression of a joint within the skull itself. When the Therapist relieves all three areas of compression, this often alleviate the depression immediately. If the three areas of compression are not present, the depression is most likely due to another cause. CranioSacral Therapy is many times still helpful since it relieves a full spectrum of pain.
This a very gentle and relaxing form of hands-on therapy releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Few body structures have more influence over your health and well-being than your central nervous system. And few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the craniosacral system––the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord.
If you think you may be suffering from depression, consult a qualified healthcare professional, so he or she can properly diagnose your condition.
