Our craniosacral system has a subtle rhythm that can be felt throughout the body. The rhythm is similar to the rhythm of our body’s cardiac system, only slower. And just as our heart pumps and circulates blood throughout the body, our craniosacral system pumps and circulates cerebrospinal fluid throughout our central nervous system, which is comprised of our brain and spinal cord. The performance of the craniosacral system has a direct influence on our motor function, learning patterns and emotions.
By working with the central nervous system Craniosacral Therapy helps bolster your body’s immune system and improves the way you respond to stress and illness. This modality works deep within the body, removing long-standing restrictions, stresses and strain patterns. But there is also a unique and spiritual dimension to the practice of Craniosacral Therapy. Craniosacral Therapy helps people connect to the core of their biology, the center of their being, resulting in increased clarity and emotional wholeness. Clients report feeling blissfully relaxed, refreshed, and re-energized after a Craniosacral Therapy session.
The fluid rhythm of the body’s craniosacral system is more than just a physical action. This part of our biology is also a field of intelligence and information. The therapist ‘listens with their hands’ in a gentle, respectful manner, creating a feeling of safety in the client, which causes a shift in their energy. The therapist’s hands gradually become aware of places in the client’s spine and body where energy feels stuck or hot.
The therapist may invite the client to put their awareness on these stuck or hot places. Sometimes this subtle shift in the client’s perceptions may cause better energy flow, or it may evoke memories of a physical or emotional trauma related to that area. As the therapist helps the client stay centered in present time, the trauma can begin to release from long-held places in the body. The client may need to ask himself why energy is stuck in an area of his body and what it needs in order to release. This is a profound way for the client to come back to his center, get in touch with his body and listen to his own needs. The healing process is not fully understood, even by the world’s most knowledgeable medical experts. It is a process of bringing back into alignment the entire being, body, mind, and spirit. It is a process of bringing the one experiencing the healing, back to their center.
