Signs constantly surround us. Their messages, particularly from the source of nature often remain undetected. Sadly we appear to have lost the ability to read them. Ancient peoples lived their lives by nature’s signs We are however, still surrounded by spiritual signs today. Signs are becoming lost in our dazzling new- world. We have to realise the importance of timing in a sighting of a bird perhaps; significant in your life, might be missed as a sign if we do not concentrate.
Many people have related their stories to me specifying the appearance of a robin or owl at particular times in their lives. Butterflies with their symbol of resurgence are frequently noted after bereavement. You may be familiar with the music of the late Amy Winehouse, the very talented singer who sadly lost her life trying to cope with the pressure of fame, like many before her. At her funeral, her grieving father was suddenly aware of a beautiful butterfly; the creature flew around his head many times before flying away. Amy’s parents took that to be a comforting sign that Amy’s soul was free.

If the warrior is distinct from the soldier, then there must be distinct ways by which the warrior develops his or her strength.
If the warrior is the mystic in action, then let us try the following four steps on for size. They derive from the mystical/prophetic or mystical/warrior journey in the creation spirituality tradition.
A Spiritual Apprenticeship
This is the story of a young man who was contacted by discarnate spiritual beings who spoke to him through the medium of an ex-monk, some 36 years his senior. It concerns the spiritual training of the younger man given by these Masters, for that is what they were, and although the contact lasted for 21 years, from 1979-1999, the greater part of the book has to do with the first year when the process was at its most intense.
Although originally intended for just one individual the training imparted is actually suitable for any spiritual seeker at any level, and there is discussion of many different aspects of the spiritual path as well as elucidation of occasionally controversial points such as the nature of the ego, the problem of evil, the place of sex in the spiritual life, the relevance of spiritual experiences and the function of teachers, all in a form that combines simplicity with depth.
“The first thing that happens is bliss, at least it was like that in my case.”
I grabbed a pen and began writing my brother’s words as he spoke. Nothing would have been odd about this had he been sitting next to me or on the phone. But he was dead. He died three weeks earlier after being hit by a car. I’d been a mess ever since, so depressed over Billy’s death I could barely lift my head from the pillow. But on this day, I was awakened at dawn by his unmistakable voice calling my name. “Annie, Annie it’s me. It’s Billy. Get up and get the red notebook.”
