Countless books, articles, and lectures have given theories about the mysterious lost continent of Atlantis. It seems that in “New Age” literature everything originated in Atlantis. Where does this come from? The source of the Atlantis story goes back centuries to a handful of pages in “Plato’s Dialogues.” Plato, who was born somewhere around 423 BCE, was a Greek philosopher, poet, and mathematician. He wrote a story called “Critias,” where he describes the Island of Atlantis.
Whatever you’re leanings on Atlantis might be, it makes for fascinating reading to learn of the vast variety of theories that are attached to this elusive land.
In the story, Critias is talking with Socrates, Timaeus, and Hermocrates. He tells them a story, told to him by his grandfather, also named Critias, who heard the story from his grandfather, Dropides (young Critias' great grandfather) who heard the story from his friend and distant cousin, Solon. Solon heard the story from an Egyptian priest while he was traveling through Egypt. The Egyptian priest heard the story from another priest who said that it had been passed down through 9,000 years of previous priests who had been told by survivors of the great deluge.
Okay, enough with the 2012 already, right? I promise, well, I can't promise, but I am determined to resist any more articles about 2012 and the Doomsday sayers after this one.
First of all, RELAX! 2012 is definitely not the apocalypse, nor it is any herald of great awakening and enlightenment. Why there are so many out there predicting one or the other, or both is, in my opinion coming from deep seated psyche, fears, and hopes rather than on factual evidence or astrology. Even though the predictions are supposedly based on the Mayan calendar, the fact is that there is more than one Mayan calendar, and none of them really reflect the astrology of the year.
Those are just a few of the "banners" we lived by in the late 60's and 70's. As many of you who follow my blog, Confessions of a Confetti Head, know, I have had a varied life experience. I guess choosing not to be a mother and not being tied down to much in the way of conventional thinking allowed me to gladly move from one life venue to another.
