Brain Power

Written by  Michael J. Gelb and Kelly Howell, forward by Tony Buzan
Brain Power Brain Power

Publisher's Description:

Virtually everyone fears mental deterioration as they age. But in the past thirty years neuroscientists have discovered that the brain is actually designed to improve throughout life. How can you encourage this improvement? Brain Power shares practical, state-of-the-evidence answers in this inspiring, fun-to-read plan for action. The authors have interviewed physicians, gerontologists, and neuroscientists; studied the habits of men and women who epitomize healthy aging; and applied what they describe in their own lives. The resulting guidance — along with the accompanying downloadable Brain Sync audio program — can help you activate unused brain areas, tone mental muscles, and enliven every faculty.

Editor's Thoughts:

As a caregiver for my mother, who was brilliant and now has Alzheimer's, this book interested me. Every time I have a "senior moment," I think, "Oh No! I'm going down the track my mother did." Not going to happen.

My mother was an inveterate sugar indulger, shoveling it in like a steam train does coal. She wouldn't exercise, and she was, and is rigid in her thinking (being right had might). I hope I learned a lot of lessons by example. Anyway, the book, Brain Power is really good. I learned much and I discovered that many of the things I already believe about aging are correct. Learning and growing are not just for the young. My husband and I are often the tallest people in the room in museums where kids are encouraged to push buttons, flip levers, and experience the wonders of science.

Michael Gelb and Kelly Howell are people after my own heart. It is, as the authors say, timeless wisdom combined with practical experience and the latest research. Unless you WANT to age gracefully and be wheeled around by efficient ladies and gents in white coats, READ THIS BOOK!
