Using myth and archetype to develop your life story

Editor's Description: Why did your life turn out this way? Who are the most important people in your world? What would you do differently, if you had the chance?

Your life is a story. It is better than any book you have ever read. Your story defines who you are and what happens to you. Ever since you were a child, you have been writing your own life script. You use stories you have heard to weave your personal narrative. The parts in your script are played by the people around you.

Some of the oldest stories still seem relevant to us today. The characters in them are familiar: the princess, the hero, the good mother, the wise old man. These characters are based on universal figures called archetypes. LifeWorks introduces the twelve major archetypes, with examples from books and films. Each figure has a story, drawn from myths and legends around the world.

The Essence of Storytelling

Foreward by Deena Metsger

Publisher's Description:

Our Secret Territory is composed of revelations from the life of a world famous storyteller including extensive travel and projects spanning thirty years. It helps readers understand the power of storytelling as a profound and unique art form combining modern solo theater, spoken literature, spirituality, and direct oral tradition akin to ancient ritual. The book is shaped with stories and poems and a remarkable fairytale that weaves in and out of a life of experiences: rescuing ex-child soldiers from a devastating war; working with epic singers, Native American storytellers and Tibetan meditation masters; designing a playground; telling tales to Roma mothers and children; and saving a zoo in Northern Romania.

The Role of Left- and right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America

A practical field guide to whole-brain, heart-centered living, The Whole-Brain Path to Peace takes you a crucial step beyond the science of brain lateralization; this book invites you into a new way of perceiving your world through whole-brain living.

Publisher's Description:

Most of us have a nonstop chorus of criticism in our heads — voices not unlike those of the mean girls lurking in locker rooms of junior high schools everywhere. Amy Ahlers’s witty, wise, and cut-to-the-chase book will give you everything you need to take on those bullying Inner Mean Girls and Inner Critics — and win. You’ll learn how to rewire the self-sabotaging lies you tell yourself into affirming truths that will increase self-respect, self-love, and self-compassion, transforming your inner and outer lives.

Publisher's Description:

Like the shaman, the storyteller is a walker between the worlds, a mediator between our known world and that of the unknown – someone who is able to commune with dragons and elves, with faeries and angels, with magical and mythical beasts, with Gods and Goddesses, heroes and demons; someone who is able to pass freely from this world into those above and those below and to help us to experience those other realms for ourselves. He or she is not only the archetypal magician but also the archetypal guide. In Tales of Power Dr Michael Berman shares with the reader the craft of the storyteller along with many shamanic tales of power from around the world. The book also includes guidance on becoming a storyteller and using the story as ceremony.

Publisher's Description:

Virtually everyone fears mental deterioration as they age. But in the past thirty years neuroscientists have discovered that the brain is actually designed to improve throughout life. How can you encourage this improvement? Brain Power shares practical, state-of-the-evidence answers in this inspiring, fun-to-read plan for action. The authors have interviewed physicians, gerontologists, and neuroscientists; studied the habits of men and women who epitomize healthy aging; and applied what they describe in their own lives. The resulting guidance — along with the accompanying downloadable Brain Sync audio program — can help you activate unused brain areas, tone mental muscles, and enliven every faculty.

Editor's Thoughts:

As a caregiver for my mother, who was brilliant and now has Alzheimer's, this book interested me. Every time I have a "senior moment," I think, "Oh No! I'm going down the track my mother did." Not going to happen.

Publisher's Description: Even with the imposed reality that surrounded her, Sybil Vaughan was able to empower herself.

This is the true story of a woman whose resilience made possible her transformation. She was born to make a difference but she could only do so when she realized that, this difference was her.

From the Author: "All that I write I have lived in my imagination or in my reality. I think we have all gone through so many similar experiences, that readers will always be able to find in my stories something to connect with, a piece of me in them, a piece of them in me."

Editor's Notes: This account of a real story is told with two voices: Sybil and Roxana. this is a book that tugs at heartstrings. Its a book about growth, self-awareness, forgiveness, and choice. This is an amazing story that requires a box of tissues be kept handy.

Publisher's Description: How can you find consolation? What sets your mind at ease? What can you hold onto when the world around you crumbles? What is solace and how do you find it? This insightful anthology features essays, poetry, and fiction on these vital questions. By the very nature of its theme, this collection delves into global problems such as our endangered planet and the effects of war and hate as well as individual struggles like the death of a loved one and the consequences of aging and illness.

Whether read cover-to-cover or savored one contribution at a time, "Solace in So Many Words" connects with readers through the heartfelt and compelling writing of more than 50 writers, including Antler, T. C. Boyle, Philip Levine, and Joe Meno, as well as newer literary discoveries who offer well-crafted words on what solace can mean to us today.

Publisher's Description: ‘Living in the Moment’ is the essential evolution in the self-help and personal development genres.  Using the popular concept of the Law of Attraction, incorporated with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), this book reveals how to master the art of positive thinking, whilst also showing how doing so will enable us to achieve our goals.  Rather than professing to know the key to material gains, ‘Living in the Moment’ explains that true happiness comes from within, and achieving this serene state of mind circumvents the need to acquire wealth and abundance.

‘Living in the Moment’ provides tools and techniques to help the reader apply its teachings in everyday life.  This book will help the reader achieve satisfaction and contentment with who they are and where they are now.

In consequence of the over hyped and ‘evangelical’ approach to the ‘Law of Attraction’ used by many people, there are many misperceptions and misinterpretations of the concept.  This book will enable the reader to gain a true understanding of how the concept works and take a more practical approach to applying its principles.

Editor's Notes: Kimberly mentions the energy modality, Matrix Energetics in several places, so I am assuming she is a graduate. I also went through Matrix Energetics training. This book seems to be based on the ideas from that modality.
