Flyer

Written by  Judith McAllister

Publisher's Description:

FLYER is a story about beating the odds... Thirteen-year old Jack Neely wants nothing more than to learn to fly like the Wright Brothers, but his drunkard father, Big Jim, considers it a dangerous waste of time. After sneaking away to the aviation show at the fairgrounds and the beating he receives as punishment, a determined Jack stows away on a rail car bound for the Curtiss Flying School in New York, where he is taken under the wing of ace birdman Wiley McCullough. There, as he learns to fly he learns to love Curtiss’ spunky daughter, Jenny. But fate and friendship intervene, luring him across the Atlantic and into the tracer-filled skies of World War I.

Will Jenny wait for Jack to come back to her as he promised? And as war tests his courage, will he grow to become what Big Jim told him he would never be— “a man worth his salt.” Accolades “Flyer is a remarkable story that will draw you in and keep you turning the pages well into the night.” Amanda Ashley, Author of New York Times Best-Seller, Bound By Night “Flyer is a page-turning tale full of high adventure, spine-tingling suspense, and gripping emotion.

A must read!” Carol J. Amato, Author of The Phantom Hunter Series “The gripping narrative and storyline, realistic dialog and the attention to historical detail make Judith McAllister’s Flyer a must-read, can’t-put-it-down-novel. This writer will be around for a long time.” Mart Shaughnessy, Author of Palomino Days.

Editor's Notes:

Judith is one of my favorite novelists. This is the second book I have read by her. Her characters are deliciously alive and interesting. Her style of writing is up close and intimate. The Flyer is a good read, heartwarming, and comfortable. At the same time it is engaging, and exciting. Sort of like curling up in front of the fireplace in your robe and fuzzy slippers, Then digging into a bowl of deep fried, jalepeno chili peppers. Yum. Definitely not boring.
