A Bow of Promise

Written by  Maralee Burdick Knowlen
A Bow of Promise A Bow of Promise

Publisher's Description: The untimely death of fifteen-year-old, brother Brian, leaves Dana desperate for comfort in her grief. In the forest near their mountain cabin, Dana meets a fantasy friend, Jenny. Together with Mother Nature, ideas develop that motivate Dana to move from guilt to memories, from apathy to energy, from alienation to compassion, from pain to beauty, and from grief to gratitude.

Everyone touched by the loss of family members, friends, or pets can relate to ideas that helped Dana. Writing A Bow of Promise helped clarify the healing process for me in the death of my younger son. How grateful I am to have the comfort and support of my older son, family, and friends. My gratitude for A Bow of Promise will be fulfilled as the revelations help others in need.

Listening followed by writing has always been paramount in my work as an educator teaching in all elementary grades; teaching courses in parenting and behavior management; workshops for the Edward de Bono School of Thinking; methods courses at California State University Northridge; and as Principal/Assistant Head at Berkeley Hall School, an independent elementary/middle school.

Editor's Notes: This little book was written by my stepfather's sister, a gentle woman with a kind heart and strong faith in her spirituality. When her son died suddenly, she was devastated but kept up a strong front and cared for others. Since my stepfather's death, she has been kind and concerned for my mother who is suffering from declining health and demential. I have a great respect for Maralee and was moved by this simple book full of heart and healing.

If you are experiencing grief, and have a faith in a higher power, I recommend this slim volume packed full of healing words.
