The death of a loved one can be profoundly sorrowful.  While each of us will face this experience, perhaps it would help to consider the eventuality of someone’s passing, as simply moving into another level of existence.  To be sure, we feel genuine sorrow and grief when a loved one dies. Indeed, there are so many things we miss with the absence of their physical presence.  However, there is another side to this experience––the spiritual side.

This past May, my dear friend Judy’s mother passed over. Ann, lived a good life and was 89 years old at the time of her passing. Upon being informed that Ann had just a few weeks to live, the family brought her to a daughter’s home. In this way, they were able to care for and be with their mother during her last few weeks. The family was blessed to bear witness to some mystical, magical and beautiful moments as Ann was being prepared for the next phase of her journey.

As the time for her crossing approached, Ann shared the following experiences with her family. She told her daughters, “they wrote my name in the book,” and that she was going to be next. This communication very likely served to reassure Ann, and may have decreased her anxiety about where she would soon be going.

Ann told her family someone had brushed her hair all night, and it felt so wonderful. It was as if a heavenly being was grooming Ann for her upcoming trip.

While her daughters were sitting with Ann, she asked if they could see the angel   standing by the bedside, holding her hand. Although her offspring were unable to see this vision, they did witness their mother having a conversation with her angel! The ethereal being told Ann she had not yet turned the page, and that the angel needed to leave to bring two more angels to come for her.  Ann nodded in acknowledgment, and smiled at her angel. She told her daughters the angel with her was very beautiful.

In addition to the angelic visitations, Judy’s mother had another spiritual visitor to assist with her transition. One night, Ann related that she was in a room with her husband. Judy asked what they were going to do, and her mother answered “We will be leaving together.” How comforting for Ann’s children to know their mother would be accompanied by her husband, when she crossed over.

There was yet another rather unusual phenomenon which occurred during Ann’s final moments on earth. Ann had a handful of change which she asked Judy to count for her. Judy counted $1.32, to which her mother replied, “No, I believe it is $1.37. That is what I need to get into Heaven.” 

What a lovely gift for her children, to realize that Ann had several interactive contacts with the “other side” before she actually arrived there herself.

The afternoon Ann journeyed to the spiritual realm, Judy felt an overwhelming urge to leave the house. Feeling her mother might not wish them to be present at the final moment, Judy convinced her sister to leave with her. When it is someone’s moment to leave their physical body, it can be more difficult to make that transition if the family is there trying to keep them here on earth. Thirty minutes after her daughters left, Ann drew her last breath and passed over peacefully.

The private experiences Judy has kindly shared with us serve to illuminate that there is so much more than we can “see.”  Divine assistance is ever present, and there are remarkable beings who look after us with abiding love. Perhaps when our time comes to let go of someone we cherish, we will take to heart the knowledge that loving angelic arms will welcome and guide our family member into the next realm.
