Have you acknowledged your Spirit Guide today? Have you given gratitude, respect and love to an entity that has only your highest good in mind? Ah, to ponder the plight of our long-suffering Guides; who witness our sometimes feeble and humorous attempts to master this physical incarnation. What do they want from us? What encourages them to encourage us?

Most people forget their Guides as they go about their daily business. We forget about our most cherished ally, the one with whom we’ve discussed which body and circumstances to be born into this lifetime. We don’t readily acknowledge that our Guides have whispered some of our ideas in our ears. Advice and inspiration is there to be had; we just have to ask for it and recognize when it’s given. The more we purposefully communicate with them the more rewarding the relationship becomes on both sides.

We may have a well-developed association with our Guide, honed through lifetimes of engaging physically and perhaps taking turns being each other’s Guide. In addition to past life connections, we may have soul contracts and karmic agreements with them. Some Guides never have a physical incarnation, choosing instead to master the spiritual virtues in the higher realms. We may have a history with them solely in-between physical lifetimes. It takes a lot of courage to incarnate in a body on this planet, that’s why they respect us so much and want to genuinely help us through our lives and karma in the most pleasant and beneficial way possible.

One way to improve communication with our Guides is to set aside time to speak to them. Meditation is a good venue, or if you don’t meditate, simply become centered and quiet. Intentionally tell yourself that you are opening up to communication with your Guide. Intention is very important in this kind of exercise, or else you may channel or hear your Higher Self or ego, or even other energies or spirits that may be nearby. Remember to first clear yourself and your space energetically. Then, send out Love from your heart to chase away any less-than-love energies. If you feel your Guide is not with you, ask them to be present. Create an inviting space for yourself and your Guide. This is a very nurturing thing to do and at first may take some discipline if you’re not accustomed to sitting quietly. Automatic writing is another option. Again, clear yourself beforehand.

Another way to communicate with your Guide (or even people you need to work things out with) is to meet them in the dreamstate. Tell yourself before you go to sleep that you’ll meet with your Guide and have a conversation. You can even pick the topic consciously beforehand, if you wish. Ask to have conscious recollection of the dream, or rather the experience. You may need to do this a few times, but eventually you will remember.

Spirit Guides aren’t with us continuously. They have other duties. We also have secondary Guides who come and go depending on what issues we’re dealing with. Our main Guide is with us from before birth and to speak to them, you must first be conscious of their presence. Do you know when they’re around? Practice the art of being conscious of your Guide. They are here for us.
