The whale is our largest mammal. Science concludes that the origins of the whale are land based; legend and folklore agree. Native American storytellers speak of a time when the whale walked the Earth and took to the ocean only after the great deluge caused huge land masses, such as Mu and Atlantis, to become engulfed by the sea. This gives rise to the belief that whales trying to beach themselves are actually wishing to return to land because of secret knowledge of an upcoming cataclysm.

Whales communicate over vast oceans through their song. Different species (and there are many) 'sing' at different vibratory rates, and have what has been proven to be an extensive language. They also use sound as a form of sonar. The Sperm whale, at least, uses a method of ultrasound to study other creatures and objects.

If the whale is one of your totems or allies: he brings the gift of communication and outer awareness. Whale is the keeper of knowledge, ancestral wisdom, and the great mysteries. He teaches you to sing your own song––to be creative. The vastness of the waters he calls home, indicate the depths of emotion, feeling and intuitiveness that surround you. The universe has provided protective layers between you and the outside elements, that may otherwise cause your sensitive nature to be out of balance.

When working with whale energy: Spend time with family and friends. Be open to new realms of possibilities. Express yourself with art, music, writing or other creative endeavors. It is a great time to take some new classes of study. Share your knowledge with others -- become the teacher. Most of all, remember to follow the rhythms of your own heart.
