One of the world's greatest mysteries and delights has been happening each Spring and Summer since the 1970's, and it never appears in the headlines of our mainstream news media! This mystery is the worldwide Crop Circle phenomenon, with huge, beautiful and complex designs gently laid down in large fields of growing cereal crops.

Scientific researchers still cannot prove who or what bends over the stalks and swirls them into perfectly executed patterns. These patterns involve amazing artistry, geometry and mathematics, with unparallel beauty and variety. Thousands of crop circles have been reported worldwide, with the most numerous and complex designs appearing in England.

As a researcher and educator about crop circles in England since 1990, I have recently published a book containing "all you ever wanted to know about crop circles and didn't know whom to ask". This human perspective is balanced by my co-author, Judith K. Moore, who has channeled enlightening information about the crop circles from a high-level, thirteenth dimensional being named Laolin. This book is entitled Crop Circles Revealed.

Crop Circles are attracting the attention of large numbers of people, and are the focus of serious, continuing scientific research and speculation by professional people from many fields of science, mathematics, geometry, physics, engineering, biophysics, paranormal research, art, history and religion. Single crop circles have been reported since the 1670's, and the patterns have become increasingly complex each year since the late 1980's. Crop circles appear mysteriously and very quickly (an estimated 15-30 seconds), usually during the short English nights and in complete darkness.

In each crop circle formation, the crop (usually wheat, barley, oats, or oilseed canola) is gently bent over at ground level and is swirled around to form circles or a variety of shapes. These stalks continue to grow parallel to the ground, and ripen and come to full maturity. The laid down crop contrasts with the surrounding standing crop, making the pattern clearly visible. Design elements are emphasized by either the laid-down crop or by the shapes left standing amidst the laid-down crop. These designs can be seen best from an airplane or helicopter flying overhead, with the interesting details of the 'lay' best seen at ground level while inside a crop circle.

Sizes of crop circles range from six inches to several hundred feet in diameter. In a few cases the design reaches an impressive length of 1000-2300 feet in length. Imagine the surprise of a farmer when seeing such a feature laid down in the growing crop in his field!

At least ten thousand circle formations have been reported and photographed from the air, most frequently in England, Holland, Germany,

Switzerland, United States, Canada, Australia, China, Japan and Russia. The main concentration is the Wiltshire and Hampshire Counties of southwest England, especially near areas of ancient megalithic stone sites and mystical happenings, and areas renowned for UFO sightings. Crop circles are usually placed on "ley" lines of energy which run just under the surface of the soil like a giant acupuncture meridian system. They are usually placed over geologic aquifers or underground wells or streams.

Factors common to crop circles include: an absence of footprints, trails or tracts leading to or from them, no evidence of machinery or tools having made them, rapid appearance without the cause being seen, (even daytime witnesses see crops being bent over and swirled into shapes without seeing any object or agent doing it), the presence of strong energy fields which can be detected for weeks and even years by dowsers, psychics, and a variety of scientific instruments. This unusual energy often causes equipment failures, such as cameras, video recorders, tape recorders, electrostatic voltmeters, compasses, magnotometers, etc., while the equipment is inside a crop circle.

Bizarre experiences often happen to crop circle researchers, which change and expand their understanding of reality: events typical of poltergeist activity, being zapped by intense energy, being healed and uplifted, or being drained and exhausted by crop circle energy, having spiritual experiences, doing astral travel, and developing increased psychic abilities.

In and around crop circles many people have witnessed anomalous visual effects, such as glowing spheres of light, flashes of colored lights in various shapes, colored glows coming from the center of a circle, and spirit beings. Visitors to crop circles often feel a sense of 'presence' and feel welcomed, acknowledged and watched. After 'balls of light' have been seen cruising over a crop field (during daytime or nighttime), a new crop circle is made during that night. These spheres have been photographed and videotaped before, during and after the making of a crop circle. They have been chased by helicopters and always elude being touched or caught.

Witnesses to crop circles being made mention varying accounts of the procedure and the agents. Some people witnessed a circle being made by sound; some people have seen metallic discs spinning and laying down crops in a field; some have seen a beam of light from the sky swirling down the crop into complex patterns; some have seen bits of plants swirling in the area, yet they have not seen any object or agent causing this action. Animals and birds caught by the powerful circle making energy have been charred thoroughly and reduced to the thickness of an inch.

Biophysical testing of crop circle plants shows 15 changes that the plants have undergone, as compared to the adjacent standing crop. It seems as if very high heat has been applied to the plants, drawing up moisture from under the soil and creating a steam effect. This makes the plants pliable enough to lay down and shape into the complex patterns. It is speculated that complex energies, which might involve microwave energy, are responsible for laying down crop circles. But the question remains: who, how and why are crop circles being made?

Theories vary about the creators of crop circles; including physical extraterrestrials operating in space crafts, spiritual beings creating these patterns from different dimensions of reality, a consciousness which operates through sound, spirit beings of the earth pulling down the plants into patterns, conscious balls of light, beam weaponry from the armed forces, and people who make crop circles as hoaxes.

In Crop Circles Revealed Judith Moore's channeling states that the crop circles are made by a combination of enlightened beings from various civilizations in space. They deliberately communicate with us through symbols designed to bring about much-needed changes within humanity and on earth. She tells how we can activate these changes by looking at and meditating on the symbols. More information about this next month.

My illustrated lecture on the Crop Circle Phenomenon and book signing will be held on Friday, March 15, at 7:30pm in the University of La Verne's Cabaret Theater (see ad on Page 15).

Also, Crop Circles Revealed will be presented at Kindred Spirits on Saturday, March 23rd, 7 to 9pm, $10 (see ad on Page 12).
