Throughout our lives, we often try to hurry situations along and attempt to mold circumstances to fit our image of how we believe things should be. We have desires, wishes and hopes, and also ideas as to how those desires should manifest.  It is therefore a natural human response to feel disappointment when life does not exactly play out the way we envisioned.  We wonder why things just are not going our way.

Well, the underlying truth is that sometimes what we want, or what we think we want, would not in actuality serve our deeper purpose.  In this grand universe in which we live, there is a force more powerful than ourselves which understands completely what is most beneficial for us at that precise moment in time.  Following is a story of how divine timing unfolded in a more amazing way than I would ever have dreamed possible.

After working nearly eight years for the same law firm, I had become increasingly dissatisfied and unhappy with my employment situation.  Although it was not a completely negative environment, a few things occurred which made it abundantly clear that this was no longer a healthy place for me to continue working.  I therefore spent several months in early 2004 involved in an earnest job search, yet things just were not falling into place.  Interviews were slow in coming, and even the positions I did interview for did not feel quite right.  Something was missing in each situation; nothing clicked. Even though I devoutly believe in spiritual signs, symbols and guidance, I admit to feeling more than a little frustrated with each passing day.   I wondered when and how my job search would culminate.

In addition to daily prayers and supplications for help with my job hunt, I listed on a sheet of paper each particular element I wished would be present in my next position.  In order to make absolutely certain that the universe understood my particular needs, I read the words aloud, clearly and with conviction.   Soon after this exercise, the answer to my quest arrived in a totally unexpected manner.  On Easter evening I received a message from a man named Bob who had been intrigued by an earlier article of mine.  (That piece was entitled, “Dreams:  When Pets Appear,” and was published right here in the January, 2003 issue of The Messenger!)   It turned out that this man was the owner of a well-known company which manufactures many familiar stuffed animals and characters, and he was in the midst of reintroducing an adorable line of collectibles called “Dream Pets.”   The article about pets visiting us in dreams struck a deep chord with Bob, and he expressed to me that what I had written articulated exactly what he was feeling about his lovable dream pet characters.

Bob contacted me based upon his gut instincts concerning my writing and intuitive skills, which he gleaned from the pet article which had a decidedly metaphysical theme.  There was no way this man could have known that my daytime career was as a paralegal, nor that I was actively seeking new employment.   Was it a coincidence that his company paralegal had resigned her position one month earlier?  (Suffice it to say that I do not believe in “coincidences.”)  In the days that ensued, an amazing calm came over my being.  Instinctively I knew that my prayer had been answered, and that my job search was over.  Before I even met Bob in person, I understood that a new career path had been placed before me, and that the path came straight from Heaven. The connection between Bob, this new company and myself could not have come about except for divine intervention.  This I know.

 As this process had unfolded so easily, and with virtually no effort on my part other than to be present, I knew that this opportunity was divinely set forth.   The manner in which this job offer transpired was so surreal, it could be nothing other than exquisite Divine Timing.   This was one of those rare moments in my life where I truly felt that an unseen hand had laid out the situation for me.  If we allow ourselves to relinquish control and let go of the reins a little bit, we will often be surprised in astonishing ways.   God always has our best interests at heart, and knows what we truly need even better than we ourselves do.  While the outcome may not be precisely what we expected, it will usually be more beautiful and appropriate than we could ever have imagined. Miracles unfold around us every day.  We have only to allow for the phenomenon of divine timing, thereby opening our hearts and souls to receive these miraculous heavenly blessings.
