Nearly everyone has dreams at one time or another which include relatives, loved ones or friends who have already passed over. Some people are disappointed because they receive few or infrequent visitation dreams from their loved ones. Others are frustrated because they would like a visit from a special spiritual friend, and that has not yet happened. Still others receive many such visits from those who have left this physical existence, and they wonder just why this occurs.

Ponder for a moment the phenomenon of visitation dreams, and perhaps you will be able to bring to mind some of your own unique experiences. Have you ever had a dream which included a relative, loved one or friend who has already passed over? Do you remember the feelings of joy, love, happiness and hope which accompanied this dream? Did it seem as if your departed loved one was actually there? That’s because they really were! Visiting us in dreams is one of the easiest ways for our loved ones, who now reside in the spiritual realm, to call upon us. When we sleep, our souls are much more open to communication with those in the spiritual realm. At times our spirit friends speak in the dreams, and convey very specific messages. Other times, they appear simply to let us know they are still there for us and that they are fine.

A dear friend of mine, Colleen, had a dream which she initially found to be quite unsettling. What she in fact experienced was a most extraordinary visitation from one of her spirit guides. In Colleen’s dream, there was a very old man sitting in a chair. She somehow knew this man and greeted him, at which point he called her over. When she asked what he wanted, he replied that he only wanted her attention; just to sit and talk with him. The elderly man extended his hand, and she held it while sitting on the floor next to him. He appeared to be very sickly and weak. After a while, he asked Colleen to help him back to his bed. He laid down, and when she went to pat him good-bye, the elderly man turned into one of her sons! He appeared to be a baby of about one year in age. She reached again to pat him on the back, and he immediately pulled away. Startled, she awoke.

In interpreting this dream for Colleen, what I discerned was that she had actually received an incredible visit from one of her primary spirit guides. The fact that Colleen felt she knew the elderly man is because he has very likely been guiding and leading her since the moment she was born into this life. He has been with her every step of the way, and chose this moment in time to reveal himself to her. Colleen’s spirit was able to recognize her guide in the dream state. This wise and loving guide came to help Colleen work through and let go of deep rooted hurts, fears and abandonment issues which dated back to childhood. Every older man she had become close to in her life passed away at a relatively early age, long before she was ready to let them go. Colleen had experienced intense pain each time, and eventually became reluctant to allow herself to get emotionally close to older male relatives or in-laws any longer. Her guide appeared in this dream to help Colleen heal from past hurts, and to assist her in opening herself up in order to grow closer to certain older male relatives who need her care and compassion.

While we humans are not privy to the reasons behind when and how those in the spiritual realm may visit us, certain facts do seem to be consistent in many instances of visitation dreams. In cases where someone has died young, and especially when the death was unexpected, that being will often pay frequent dream visits to loved ones following their passing. The reason is simple, poignant and loving: these dear souls are attempting to comfort and console those who are left behind by coming to see them in their dreams.

For those who desire to receive a visit from a particular relative or friend, I offer a suggestion which worked beautifully when I wished to see my grandfather who passed away over 20 years ago. Communicate to the spirit of that departed loved one, and let that wonderful being know that you would enjoy seeing them again. It is not necessary to speak aloud, as those in the spiritual realm are able to understand our thoughts telepathically. Then simply say a prayer, and ask that God allow your loved one to visit you in a dream. It is quite probable that you will receive a special dream visit in the near future.

The next time you are privileged to receive a visitation dream, pay close attention! Your spiritual visitor loves you very much, and with God’s permission has been allowed to come to you in this wondrous way. Consider yourself blessed, and enjoy the visit!
