One of Life's great questions centers on "why are we here and where are we going?" Why do Souls manifest in a physical body? Part of the answer to these inquiries is in last month's article titled “Soul as Co-Creator,” which discussed how the Soul evolves in a body, and as a separate entity fueled by the God-power, or Creative Force. When Soul is seen in this manner, it's looked upon as pure Consciousness.

Why would Soul choose to be in any three-dimensional encasing? The same reason it manifests at all. Mostly to do its purpose, or rather, continue to do its purpose.

As Soul "separates" from Source, its first decision is through what specialty, or essence, it will manifest its lessons and experience. Spiritual mastery is the goal, which is comprised of different levels. Briefly stated, the three levels are warrior (Shiva), creation (Brahma) and peace or preservation (Vishnu). Intertwined with these are right discrimination, letting go and emotional release. Once we have achieved mastery of the inner worlds, which is the personal and universal, then we are ultimately guided by our Higher Mind. The Higher Mind is the purest expression of Soul in terms of it containing our personal Soul knowledge. It's unfettered by the Lower Self, our ego and personality. Belief patterns have no place here. The Higher Mind can be accessed during meditation to impart insight and guidance. It's especially helpful if we are confused about the right choices to make in our lives. The Higher Mind is the vehicle that Soul works through. It's really an invaluable tool on the road to mastery.

At the same time Soul determines to incarnate in a physical body, it also chooses a specialty, or essence, by which it will express itself. Once selected, lessons, Karma and general experience will be filtered through that choice. Selections include the warrior, teacher, healer and artist. There may be others, but these are the most common I've come across. Keep in mind that even though one specialty dominates, we also express aspects of the others through our purpose. Spiritual mastery requires proficiency in all, and expertise in the main path. We can be a warrior/teacher or healer/artist, or any combination.

Our Soul's essence is then brought out through select circumstances. We, as Soul, in between incarnations discuss with our Spirit Guides and teachers how to best serve our Soul's evolution, or learning process. This is when we get to pick out our bodies, prospective families, circumstances we grow up in, etc. We usually incarnate with others in our "Soul family". Concerns such as how will Soul most benefit from this type of experience, and what challenges will Soul face, arise in the selection process. We can be advised, but it's always our Soul's responsibility to choose. And yes, occasionally in our eagerness to advance, we choose circumstances that are extremely demanding and challenging––we forget the potential harshness and courage we may need to work off our particular Karma.

Once the selection process is complete, Soul is free to move in and out of the fetus. It gains a better understanding of what's in store, and has the freedom to change it's mind. We know beforehand our mission and purpose and the various ways it can manifest.

It's always fascinating and rewarding working with clients in past-life regression to see how evolution plays out. Patterns emerge and we discover how our essence is expressed through past lives. Guided by the Higher Mind, regression takes us on a personal journey, allowing us to heal wounds and uncover root causes of behavior. A warrior/teacher will probably have many lifetimes of passing at a young age, and being persecuted for speaking their truth. Action is the way of the warrior.

Whatever choices we make, it's always for our highest good, with an eye and heart towards Spiritual Mastery.
