What is PH and how do I get it? Most importantly, what’s it going to do for ME! Well, I’m sooo glad you asked !

PH, simply put, is the measure used to determine how acid or how alkaline your internal fluids are. These internal fluids affect each and every cell in our bodies. The entire metabolic process depends on a balanced internal alkalinity. The phrase "You are what you eat" is far more accurate than we realize. An over-acidic PH actually corrodes body tissue, causing all kinds of disease and a breakdown of the body’s immune system. An alkaline system, on the other hand, promotes good health, vitality, and a strong immune system.

The main causes of an acidic system are poor diet, stressful lifestyle, environmental pollution, and negative thinking. So, how do we change these? The first thing is that fast food diet. Even though it’s convenient, in the long run we are placing our bodies on the fast track to illness. Avoid acid producing foods like dairy, refined sugar, refined anything, and excessive animal protein.

Divide your plate into thirds...One third protein, one third carbohydrate (complex is best), and the final third salad or veggies...lightly steamed or raw. This one change will improve your health and energy. Food is our most powerful ally in the struggle to maintain health and vitality. It can, however, be our deadliest enemy. Even the medical field is now proving a diet based on fruits and vegetables can actually prevent and sometimes cure diseases. Start thinking of fast food in terms of apples, carrots, and leafy greens! A good alkalizing drink to start or end your day is organic apple juice, a carrot, and an apple all blended together, pulp and all. It’s refreshing, energizing, and most importantly––alkalizing.

Now let’s look at your lifestyle. You can do some things during that hectic day to help you and your body function better. First and foremost––BREATHE ! Take in a deep, full breath; hold for 15 seconds; and slowly exhale. This technique can be used anywhere, anytime and immediately puts your brain on a slower wave length that gives relief to your entire mind and body. And remember to MOVE. Do stretches to help your body be more flexible, especially if you sit at a desk all day...stand on tiptoe and reach for the sky, walk or go to the gym for a workout.

Environmental pollution is another stress. To change your air, you can get a good air filter––one that gives off negative ions makes your inside air feel like the beach, that make us feel so good.

One very important thing to remember is to keep our thinking positive. "Stinkin’ Thinkin’" will keep that PH on the acidic level. Our thoughts are powerful. So, try as much as possible to "think sweet" "think happy" .

Why alkalize? An alkaline system fights disease, builds a strong immune system, gives us energy, and makes us feel happier and more joyful. Each time we eat refined sugar or refined flour (which breaks down to sugar) our immune system is depleted by 50% for at least 5 or 6 hours! Eating alkalizing foods is our best defense against illness and disease.

You want to have a PH of about 7. Test with PH strips from a good health food store. Test urine and saliva first thing in the morning for the most accurate reading. (If your PH is 9+ you may be producing too much ammonia to compensate for the acidic environment.)

To learn even more about PH, call me or come to the Festival at Kindred Spirits in Claremont. Sun. Aug 3, I’ll give a free lecture at 1pm on PH and pass out lists of alkalizing and acidic foods and answer your questions.
