Dear Louise,
Can I do affirmations that can help or heal another person? If so, how do I phrase it? The affirmation one uses for oneself: I accept divine guidance... becomes what when done for someone else? Thank you for your help! E.T., Santa Barbara, California
Dear E.T.,
You cant force someone else to heal in the way that you want them to. Were each under the law of our own consciousness, and its not fair to interfere. For example, if someone really wants to leave the planet, then we have no right to stop them.
However, you can know the truth for them. What I would say is: I know and affirm that my friend [Mary Smith] is happy, healthy, and enjoying life. Within her is the intelligence of the Universe, the healing power of love, and the ability to create a vibrant life. All is well in her world.
Then, think only positive thoughts about your friend. Dont think about illness, poverty, or lack of any support. In this way, you support your friends well-being.
Dear Louise,
Im inundated with negative thoughts about my decisions, my life, and myself. Im aware the bad thoughts come from my mother, who was constantly pointing out my faults. I thought that moving far away would help. Today, as a 37-year-old mother, I know that wont help. Its in me. I feel like a failure and ruin any good relationships I have by either being too needy or too mean and angry.
The by-product of this negative thinking is that Im a procrastinator and lack discipline to do the exercises in your book. Please help me stop this curse and prevent my daughter from picking up this destructive behavior. M.J., Boston, MA
Dear M.J.,
I dont care how many times your misguided mother said you were worthless, theres not a word of truth in it. She was only repeating what her own mother told her. As you have compassion for what your mother went through as a child, youll also have compassion for your own inner child. Stop blaming your motherblame only keeps you stuck.
Moving away never helps because you carry the thoughts with you wherever you go. Youre just trying to be a good little girl and believe what your mother told you.
Now lets drop all that nonsense. You dont have to read another thing or do any exercises. I want to make this very simple for you. I want you to make a list of delicious memories. You can put one thing on the list a day: things you remember as being fun or delightful or pleasant. Even the most unhappy of us can remember some fun times.
Then, whenever you realize that youre feeling bad, angry, guilty, fearful, or whatever, substitute a delicious memory. The point of the list is to have some thoughts to use to make the switch. If youll love yourself enough to do this for one month, youll be amazed at the positive changes in your life.
Make a game with your daughter by choosing to think thoughts that make you both feel good. Joy will bring you to a healthy new place.
Dear Louise,
Im trying to increase my popularity in terms of my own image, peoples perceptions of me, my ability to find new friends, and the quality of the relationships with the friends I already have. I was wondering if you could please give me some advice on how to achieve my aims. I believe the books youve written are life-changing and extremely powerful.
Thank you. S.D., Germany
Dear S.D.,
AFFIRM: I am attractive, loving, and wonderful, and everybody loves me. Say this over and over again to yourself all day long, no matter where you are. Say it as you first awaken and then say it again the last thing at night. And keep your smile and inner glow going. Thats all you need to do. Let me know in a month or two how youre doing.
