The Cancer-Capricorn energy of the December 30 lunar eclipse rings in our New Year. Themes of family, home, and patriotism abound, along with the ability to create structures to support your New Year resolutions. The Sun and Venus are in Capricorn emphasizing our desires for the finer things in life. Jupiter is in Cancer this month making it easier then usual for us to feel our connection to Spirit. WeÕll experience a Mars-Pluto square in Pisces and Sagittarius at 16 degrees - look to where this square falls in your chart to see what area of life is calling you to dig up and face issues that are demanding to be faced this month. Mercury turns retrograde on January 18th and will remain so until February 8th. A good time to rework, rewrite, revise. Be cautious and thorough if you must sign contracts during this time.

The beginning of a new year is a good time to talk about cycles. Most of us live by mechanical time and have lost sight of the wisdom of our internal cycles. For years, IÕve been observing my Personal Lunar Cycle. Those of us who possess a strong desire to manifest our highest spiritual potential can benefit from working with the Personal Lunar Cycle.

When you align with natural cycles you open to the fullest range of potential within any moment. You experience a freedom that corresponds to nature and the unlimited potential for awakening. Intuition deepens, connection with Spirit strengthens, and you become aware of contentment with what IS in that moment.

Tuning into your cycles is even more important when you maintain a busy schedule. It helps you plan to work productively during your energetic times and to rest, taking full advantage of the down times.

I am by nature usually a calm rather easygoing person. I donÕt tend to "quick anger" too often nor am I typically irritable. One day, several years ago, when I was particularly impatient with traffic and customer service folks on the phone, I took look at where the moon was positioned. It was exactly in the place where the moon was located at the time of my birth! This is known as your lunar return and corresponds to a feeling of a new moon. This occurs each month at different times for all of us. I began tracking my personal lunar cycle and found it to be an excellent tool for predicting my energy levels.

For about 3 days before your personal new moon, you experience a dark moon period. During this time it is normal to feel extraordinarily tired. YouÕll probably want some down time, time to be alone, to be with your thoughts and intuition. If youÕre not in tune with this time and push forward with your activities, youÕll find yourself irritable and exhausted. On the other hand, when youÕre experiencing your own personal full moon time, youÕll have plenty of energy.

If you were born during a new moon period, your personal lunar time will align with the moons quarters noted on your calendars. But for most of us, our personal cycles donÕt coincide.

Briefly, here are descriptions for the energy around moon phases:
dark moon – rest and dissolution
new moon – planting the seed, new beginnings
first quarter – external resistance (the seed breaking through the ground)
full moon – union, energy, culmination
last quarter – internal resistance (mini-death as something dissolves or breaks down)
