As the fitness industry grows and changes, it finds itself moving towards holistic approaches for exercise. Yoga is finding itself on the cutting edge in the holistic fitness move. There are various forms of Yoga. The form I am referring to is Hatha Yoga. It is the most popular form, with it's pure, no-frills approach.

Yoga is challenging to anyone, and under the guidance of a well-trained instructor, it can be very doable for everyone. Yoga is designed and developed for people who want a physical body workout, plus the benefits of increase flexibility as well as clearing, calming and de-stressing the mind. Yoga can awaken the body, relax the mind and renew the spirit.

During the first part of a Yoga session, you will spend several minutes focusing on deep breathing and some body movements. This helps you turn your attention inward to help connect the body and mind. Using various flowing Yoga poses the core body temperature will become elevated in preparation for the work session of Yoga. During the work session of Yoga the muscles will be strengthened, lengthened and challenged by more complex Yoga poses. The physical body will begin to sweat and feel the workout as the body increases it's flexibility through deep stretching with focus on the breath. Breathing in combination with balancing and stretching of the body helps release the stress and tension often held in the muscles of the body. As the Yoga poses begin to stretch, strengthen and lengthen the muscles of the body, an amazing thing begins to happen. The body begins to awaken and feel alive with a sense of radiance, and renewed well-being. As the body becomes toned with a new found strength and increased flexibility, it also begins to feel restored by oxygenation of the cells giving it more energy.

A flexible body and spine equals a flexible mind. As the brain and mind becomes filled with oxygen rich blood from deep breathing, it becomes inspired, and the body feels revitalized. An attitude of happiness is experienced and positive energy flows throughout the body. Deep breathing opens the heart and lungs, cleansing and removing tightness, stiffness, opening to a new form of relaxation and play. Deep relaxation and a sense of wholeness of body, mind and spirit is a reward of the Yoga experience.

As you practice Yoga and learn to listen to your body, you learn to enjoy being in the present moment without competition, without judgment and without expectations. You learn to simply enjoy breathing, relaxing, feeling and listening to your body as you challenge it physically. Honor your body as you challenge it with Yoga movements. Remember, if each day you learn to sweat a little, laugh a little, relax a little, it can bring a new sense of accomplishment and balance into your life. As you practice Yoga poses always focus on breathing to help clear the mind so you can be the best you in the present moment.

Enjoy a strong foundation in Yoga for your mind, body and spirit connection and live in great happiness, wholeness and peace each day.
